By mail – when an up-to-date address list is available, can reach a large geographical area, good for sensitive issues and when a significant portion of the target respondents do not have web access
By Internet/Web – scalable to reach a lot of people instantaneously with negligible distribution costs, answers can be validated before submission, data flows directly into database software, easy to track response rates
